More and more people are discovering this wonderful jewel that has received several awards, including the award as "Spain's most beautiful coastal village" in an international vote2016.

You can easily travel with any of the direct flights to Malaga. From Malaga you can take a taxi (about 65 euros), take a bus or rent a car to get to Nerja.
Thanks to its location, the city is alive all year round and there is a constant crowd of tourists who want to discover this jewel. There is also a large proportion of residents here, which also contributes to the city being equally pleasant to visit all year. Nerja differs from many of the other resorts on the Spanish suncoast in that it is almost completely devoid of high buildings. In the city center there are only two and three story houses. Although there are large hotels on the outskirts of Nerja, they still blend into the cityscape comfortably. Nerja has plenty of pedestrian streets which makes the city ideal for walking.
Nerja is a beach lover's paradise as there are several beautiful beaches. The nearest beach is Playa Burriana which is also the most famous in Nerja. It is a sandy beach where there are many beach and water activities as well as many bars and restaurants. However, do not miss all the small cozy beaches nestled between the cliffs along Nerja's coast such as Playa Carabeo and Playa Carabeillo.
Next to Burriana, a pedestrian street called Calle Hernando de Carabeo winds its way forward and occasionally you can see the sea in the gaps between the low houses. On the way you will find most residential buildings, but also some restaurants, vegetable shops and shops. At the end of the street you will find Nerja's landmark- Balcón de Europa.
A bit from Nerja is Maro beach which is a very nice beach if you are into snorkelling and during high season there are kayaks for rent. You can also book a guided kayak trip to the caves between Maro and Burriana beach.
Nerja offers the perfect holiday combination - beautiful landscapes and beaches, excellent Andalusian gastronomy and a large selection of leisure activities. Below are some good links on activities and tips.
Balcon de Europa
Probably the most visited place in Nerja and you understand why when you come here. If you go around Nerja you can't miss this place, it is well signposted and the small alleys lead to the place. If you come by car, it is good to park in the public parking lots and then walk through the narrow cozy alleys. Before arriving, you pass the Plaza Balcon de Europa where there are many restaurants, bars, cafes, ice cream parlors and the Parraquia El Salvador church. Once in front you can see a wonderfully beautiful view of the sea and surrounding land.
Burriana Beach
Burriana is considered by many as the jewel in the crown when we talk beaches in Nerja. Here you will meet a popular beach that is suitable for the whole family. Although the road here is not the easiest, it continues to be one of the most visited beaches in the regions as there are plenty of restaurants, bars and water activities.
Nerja center
The city of Nerja is lively and easy going and you get a very cozy feeling when you are in the center. The city consists of narrow winding streets lined with souvenir shops and cafes. Here you can meet many foreign locals who sit in the cafes and enjoy. In the evenings, it is full of life at all the center's tapas bars and restaurants. There are about 400 restaurants, bars and cafes.
Cueva de Nerja
The caves in Nerja are Europe's largest cave system and extremely impressive. In the open parts there are no narrow uncomfortable passages but consist of mostly large halls. In one of them there's been several opera performances with 800 seats during the summer. In the open inner part there is the world's largest column (ie pillars that are a stalagmite and stalactite grown together). It is just over 30 meters high and 30 meters wide and if you consider that a small stalactite grows about 1 dm in 1000 years, there are many millions of years we are talking about.
Rio Chillar
Getting up the Rio Chillar (River Chillar) in Nerja is one of the best walks in the area according to many. A combination of fresh air, so it can be almost indispensable if you stand directly in the sun, cool water and plenty of shade proved the walk to be a top activity for those who want to find something outside of all the villages and coastal cities.
This route cuts through the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama's natural park and the area offers plenty of shade, crystal clear water rivers and other experiences just waiting to be discovered.
